Undergrad Urban Education Pathway
The Smith- Teach Western Mass Undergraduate Urban Education Pathway
Are you an undergraduate student at one of the Five Colleges (Smith College, Mt. Holyoke, Amherst, Hampshire and UMass-Amherst)? We are looking for the future generation of urban educators dedicated to bringing an excellent education to every classroom in our region. Join us by becoming an Urban Education Pathway Scholar! Applications for the 2017-18 Cohort are open now. Click here to view the pdf application then apply online.
The Urban Education Pathway launches with its foundational program, the Urban Education Scholars (UES) program. In partnership with Smith College, this prestigious, application-based program selects interested students who then engage in three experiences: fall orientation sessions, a January-term fellowship in an urban classroom, and a seminar in the spring focused on urban education in Western Mass.
With clear links to future employment in Western Massachusetts, we hope many scholars participating in the pathway will choose to teach in one of the twenty-six Teach Western Mass partner schools in Holyoke and Springfield after graduation and completing applicable licensure programs.
In addition to a foundational year of experiences in urban education, Urban Ed Scholars will continue to have unique development opportunities and access to mentorship and career resources, professional development sessions, and access to the resources of Smith Education & Child Study Program.
