Our Vision
Equitable education has an unmatched power to lead students into bright futures and develop strong communities, yet there exists untapped potential to serve a vibrant population of BIPOC students. When students see themselves reflected in the identities and life experiences of their teachers, they are more likely to thrive, develop confidence, and feel a sense of belonging.
To achieve educational equity in the Western Massachusetts region, Teach Western Mass builds and bolsters a diverse, sustainable educational workforce by providing alternative pathways to classroom careers and transformative educator opportunities. Through our certification program and ongoing support, we work to eliminate the barriers that have kept talented BIPOC teachers from serving the schools of Western Massachusetts. We collaborate closely with partner schools to develop comprehensive retention strategies that prioritize creating inclusive environments for BIPOC educators to reduce teacher turnover.
Collectively, we represent 30 schools serving more than 11,000 students in Western Massachusetts.
Simply put, we exist to strengthen the local education workforce by developing powerful teachers reflective of their students’ life experiences and identities. Collectively, we can ensure that all Western Massachusetts students and educators are equipped to lead the life they dream because we value:
1 Equity and Advocacy
We advocate for equity in education, ensuring that every student has access to high-quality instruction, resources, and opportunities for success.
2 A Student-Centered Approach
We actively incorporate student identities, cultures, and experiences into curriculum, instruction, and learning environments to foster meaningful connections and close opportunity gaps.
3 High Standards With Support
We set high expectations for individuals while providing the necessary guidance and resources to help them meet those expectations.
4 Sustainable Change
We strive to integrate new models and insights into our practices, ensuring that positive transformations are enduring and impact on the education system is long-term.
5 Collaborative Community Engagement
We actively seek collaboration with the community to create a collective impact on education. We believe that meaningful partnerships with families, schools, and community organizations are essential for strengthening educational outcomes and opportunities for every learner.
